Reflections on an in-person Health Equity Journal Club for incoming Medical Students

with Melissa Chen, MD

This presentation is released on Monday, January 18, 2027.

Normally hosted online by a student and faculty pair, the journal club met in person for incoming medical students, centered on an article about differing research funding for cystic fibrosis and sickle cell disease. The discussion examined how racial bias affects systematic funding for sickle cell disease, and the in-person format supported open discussion with consistent participation while introducing students to a forum they can later lead.
